Children’s day respite in Drumsna

Our children’s day respite service supports children with disabilities and their families. It gives children time for activities, play and experiences outside their usual routine, with care and support planned around them.

What children can do

The day can include play, sensory and creative activities, daily living activities and local outings. Some children enjoy being active and getting out; others need quieter activities and a familiar routine. We plan around each child’s interests, communication and support needs.

Getting to know your child

We want to understand how your child tells us what they want, what helps them feel comfortable, what they enjoy and what they find difficult. We discuss their routines and care needs with you and the professionals involved in their support.

Personal care, food, medication and any additional support are considered as part of the child’s individual arrangements.

What families tell us

Parents have described kind, flexible staff and a relaxed setting where activities follow their child’s needs. Families have told us that their children enjoy coming to day respite, trying different activities and visiting local places. Parents also describe the value of time with their other children and space for family routines.

For parents and guardians

Planning a day that works for your child

Tell us about your child’s interests, communication, routines and the things that help them feel comfortable. Together with your HSE or CDNT contact, we can discuss the support they need.

A day shaped around your child

Things they enjoy

Play, creative and sensory activities can reflect each child’s interests and preferences.

Time at their own pace

Quieter activities and familiar routines can be planned around what helps a child feel comfortable.

Getting out and taking part

Local outings and everyday activities are considered around each child’s support needs.
